Tips for Tasmania

  • Book the ferry or flight early: the Spirit of Tasmania from Geelong to Devonport fills up quickly in December, and it lets you bring your car.
  • Cherries move fast: the season is short, and big orchards recruit in October and November. Apply before you arrive.
  • Plan for winter: fruit work slows down a lot from June. Pruning, dairy farms or the mainland (citrus, Queensland vegetables) are good options.
  • Pack warm clothes: even in summer, mornings in the orchards are cold.
